How do I share my updates outside TeamUp?

These instructions explain how talents and Business Team users can share an update they make in TeamUp directly and simultaneously to Facebook and/or Twitter

Posting simultaneously to Facebook and Twitter

Any updates you make in TeamUp can be seen by anybody, including those who have not yet signed up as TeamUp users, because the content of all the profiles in TeamUp can be freely browsed by anyone who ends up on the site. If you wish to get more attention to the updates you make in TeamUp, you can simultaneously publish it also on Facebook – either on your personal Facebook profile or on your Facebook page, if you have one (e.g. a fan page) – as well as on your Twitter account. 

How can I share a TeamUp update to Facebook?


You probably have already made updates on TeamUp, or at least have seen the field for publishing your updates, located on the front page of your TeamUp profile. Below the text field, where you can write your update, you can see the bird symbol of Twitter and the f-logo of Facebook. When you want to publish your update simultaneously to both TeamUp and Facebook, click on the f icon to activate it, and it will turn blue.

If you are publishing a TeamUp update to Facebook for the first time, you need to first connect your Facebook account to your TeamUp account, as instructed below. 

Connecting your TeamUp account to Facebook


When you are about to publish an update from TeamUp to Facebook for the first time, as you click on the f icon to activate Facebook sharing, it launches a new popup window where you are asked to log in to Facebook with your account details.



Note! If the browser you are using has a blocker feature that prevents from opening new popup windows, this might prevent this login popup from showing. The notification for a blocked popup window will be shown slightly differently depending on which browser you are using. Typically it is shown on the address bar of your browser. The screenshot below is from Mozilla Firefox.



If you have clicked on the f icon but no popup window is launched, check the address bar if it shows a message about a blocked popup. Typically the notification also contains a button or a link where you can adjust the settings of your browser to allow popup windows from TeamUp.

If you already are logged in on Facebook in another browser tab, you will not see the request to log in; instead, you will see the popup for TeamUp's Facebook app.



The contents of this popup window is similar to any other app that wants to connect to your Facebook account: it requests your approval that the app may receive information about your Facebook profile, including your public profile, your friends list and photos. You must accept this by clicking OK, in order to take TeamUp's Facebook sharing into use and for TeamUp to be able to publish your updates to your Facebook profile.



When you have allowed the TeamUp app to receive the above mentioned information from your Facebook profile, the app will next request your permission to publish updates on Facebook for you. On the bottom left corner of this popup window you can see the Facebook menu for privacy settings, where you can select the audience for your updates, i.e. who you want to be able to see the updates you share from TeamUp to Facebook. If you select Public, the updates will be shown to all Facebook users. Select your preferred audience from the dropdown menu and click OK to continue. (You can change this setting if you later would like to publish to a different group or audience.)



In the next phase, if you are an administrator for a Facebook page (for instance if you have your own fan page on Facebook or if you are managing your company's Facebook page), the app will request your permission for managing your Pages - which in practice means publishing updates to that page. If you want to have the chance for sharing your TeamUp updates to a Facebook page instead of your personal profile, click OK. Otherwise you can skip this phase. 



Next you will see a popup window where you are asked to choose, which Facebook profile or Facebook page you would like to connect with your TeamUp profile. For example, if you have several Facebook pages in addition to your personal profile, select here which of those you would like to use for publishing your updates from TeamUp. When you have selected the profile you want, you are all set to actually publish your first update from TeamUp to Facebook.

Publishing a TeamUp update to Facebook

When you have successfully connected your TeamUp profile with your Facebook account, there's nothing preventing you from sharing your first update from TeamUp to Facebook. When you have written the content for your update (and, if needed, added a picture or some media content), click on the Post button - with the f icon already being blue and activated - and your update will be simultaneously published in both TeamUp and Facebook.

The settings that you made while connecting your Facebook account to TeamUp will be saved in your profile details, and next time when you want to publish an update simultaneously both in TeamUp and Facebook, all you need to do is type in the update, activate the Facebook sharing by clicking on the f button and hit the Post button. If you are not already logged in to Facebook in another browser tab, you will be asked to log in to your Facebook account so that the update can be published. So, in the future sharing your updates in these two channels simultaneously is easy peasy!

Changing the settings of your Facebook connection

You can review the details of the Facebook connection you have made by going to your TeamUp profile's Account management, which you can access from the main menu which opens when you click on your own profile picture in the top right corner. On the Account management page, click on the Show details button which can be seen adjacent to the white area showing your profile information.



Clicking on that button reveals a detailed view of additional information about your talent profile. Topmost in that area you can see Connections, which shows the connection status of your account. If you have connected it to Facebook, the name of the Facebook profile or Facebook page where your TeamUp updates are being published will be shown here in blue font.



If you want to remove the connection between your TeamUp profile and Facebook or if you want to change the Facebook profile or page where your updates will be published, you can do it by clicking the Disconnect button. Next time when you want to publish an update from TeamUp to Facebook, you will again see a popup window where you are asked to select, which Facebook page or profile you want the update to be published. The privacy settings of publishing will remain the same, however, which means that the audience you selected when you first connected your TeamUp and Facebook accounts will stay as default.

How do I chance the audience of an update shared to Facebook?


If you want to change the audience of your posts (or if you want to remove the connection between your Facebook account and TeamUp profile completely), you must do the changes in the privacy settings of your Facebook profile on Facebook. When you are on Facebook's Privacy Settings page, the menu on the left contains an item "Apps"; click on it to open the App Settings page, which contains the list of apps you have allowed to link with your Facebook profile in one way or another.



On this page you'll also find the TeamUp app. When you click on Edit to view its details, you can see and change the privacy settings (i.e.: audience) of the app by selecting from the Visibility of app dropdown menu. Manage your pages shows you the list of Facebook pages that you have allowed the TeamUp app to post in. If you want to remove the app's right to share updates to these pages and in the future publish your TeamUp updates only to your personal Facebook profile, you can remove the publishing right for the pages by clicking on the x on the right. You can also remove the TeamUp application completely on this page by clicking the Remove app link.

How can I share a TeamUp update to Twitter?


When you want to publish your update simultaneously to both TeamUp and Twitter, when you're typing in your update to the text field, click on the button that shows the bird icon of Twitter to activate it. When the button has turned blue, you're ready to publish your update also to your Twitter account.

If you are publishing a TeamUp update to Twitter for the first time, you need to first connect your Twitter account to your TeamUp account, as instructed below. 

Connecting your TeamUp account to Twitter


When you activate the Twitter button when you're about to write your update, clicking on the button will launch a new popup window where you are first asked to log in to your Twitter account. If you already are logged in to Twitter for instance in another tab in your web browser, you won't see the request to log in; instead, you will directly see the popup of the TeamUp Twitter app.



The contents of this popup window are the same as when connecting any other website or user account to Twitter: it requests the user's authorization for allowing the application "TeamUp Oy" to use your Twitter account and e.g. post updates (in this context, Tweets) for you. You must accept this by clicking "Authorize app", so that you can take TeamUp's Twitter sharing in use and so that TeamUp can publish your updates to your Twitter account.

When you have authorized the app in this popup window to use the information on your Twitter account, you will still see a confirmation message that TeamUp is now allowed to post to your Twitter. Click on the "Close this window" button to close the popup and to return back to posting your update.

Posting a TeamUp update to Twitter


When you have successfully connected your TeamUp account with your Twitter account, there's no more hassle needed for making an update. When you have written the contents of your update (and added eventual photos or media content), click on the Post button, and your update will be shared simultaneously to your TeamUp profile and in your Twitter account.

The settings you made while making this first update will be saved in the account details of your TeamUp profile, and the next time when you want to post an update simultaneously to both TeamUp and Twitter, all you need to do is type the update, activate the Twitter sharing by clicking the bird button, and hit Post to publish your update. If you are not already logged in to Twitter in another browser tab, you will be asked to log in to your Twitter account so that the update can be tweeted. So, in the future sharing your updates in these two channels simultaneously is easy peasy!

Due to Twitter's length limitation of 140 characters, if the update you share from TeamUp to Twitter exceeds 140 characters, it will be automatically truncated and a bit.ly shortlink will be added to it that points back to TeamUp. Clicking on the shortlink will open the full update you have posted in TeamUp.

Changing the settings of your Twitter connection


You can see the details about the link between your TeamUp and Twitter profiles in the Account management of your TeamUp profile. You can access it from the main menu, which opens when you click on your own profile picture in the top right corner. On the Account management page, click on the Show details button. The topmost section in the page that opens is called Connections, and this is where you will see the status of your Twitter connection.



If your TeamUp profile has been successfully linked with Twitter, you will see a text in green that says Connected. If you want to remove the connection between your TeamUp and Twitter profiles, you can do this by clicking the Disconnect button. 

Posting simultaneously to Facebook and Twitter


When you have connected your TeamUp account to both Facebook and Twitter, you can easily publish the updates you make in TeamUp simultaneously to both services. All you need to do is write your post, click on both the Twitter and Facebook icon to activate them and hit the Post button. In the blink of an eye your TeamUp update is shared to all three channels!

Thanks to this sharing feature, it is now really easy for you to make TeamUp the centre of your whole social media use! In this way you can "kill three birds with one stone": you get visibility in three social media channels with just one click of a button.
