How do I edit my FanPage?

Last Updated: Feb 05, 2015 04:08PM EET

Where can I edit my FanPage?

Whenever you are in the private view of your profile, a grey Edit btton is shown next to your profile picture and name. Clicking that button will open the profile edit page. You can access the edit page also from the main menu, located in the upper right corner of our site: clicking your user name opens a dropdown menu, where clicking on Edit profile takes you to editing your profile.

Editing the FanPage

This article contains instructions for what and how you can edit in your own FanPage. The screenshots in this article show the FanPage one view at a time, so that you'll see all the sections of your profile that you can edit.

If you don't want to read the full article, you can go directly to the section that interests you the most from the links provided below. In your profile, you can edit each part by clicking on the blue pencil symbol next to it.

Profile picture

You can set yourself a profile picture by clicking the pencil (indicated in the screenshot with number 1). The recommended size of the profile picture is 200 x 200 pixels, but you can zoom and align photos of other sizes to fit, too.

Name and title

Here (number 2 in the screenshot) you can edit your user name and give your profile a short title that best describes you. The title can for instance be your profession or tell in more detail what kind of a FanPage you are (e.g. a musician, a mogul skier, a multiFanPage...)

Cover image

You can add several large high-quality cover images to your profile that the visitors to your profile can browse like a slideshow. Add your first cover image by clicking on the button Add a slideshow image (number 3 in the screenshot). The recommended size of the cover image is 1920 x 873 pixels, so you might want to choose a picture that is large enough and of good quality to get a result that's sharp. You can align and crop pictures that are larger than the recommended size to fit the space by zooming and moving the image in the editing popup. When you're satisfied with the result, click Save.

When you already have a cover image in your profile:

If you have already added one or several cover images to your profile, the edit view of the cover image looks like the above screenshot. If you want to add a new image to the slideshow, you can do it by clicking Add a slideshow image (number 1 in the screenshot). If you want to replace the current cover image with some other picture, select Replace this cover image (2) when you are viewing that image in your slideshow that you want to replace.

If you want to delete a particular cover image, select Delete this image (3). If you have several cover images in your profile and you want to delete or replace one of them, you can move between the pictures by clicking on the arrows that appear to the left and right side of the screen (4).

You can also add a short description text (indicated by number 5) to each cover image - a different text to each. For example, you can say a few words about the picture in question or write some other short text explaining a bit about yourself or your profile. You can edit the description texts of different cover images by navigating between the images by clicking on the left and right arrows appearing to the sides of the screen.

Introduction text

When you scroll down the front page of your FanPage, the next element after the cover image is your introduction text (indicated by 1 in the screenshot above). Here you can tell about yourself in a few sentences, for instance who you are, what you do, why are you in TeamUp or what are your goals. If you leave this empty, it will not be shown in your profile. However, we recommend you to write something here that will catch the visitors' attention when they first come to your profile - and thus encourage them to browse it more thoroughly.

Introduction video

You can also add an introduction video (number 2) to your profile's front page. A video is an excellent and efficient way of telling other TeamUp users about you. If you don't have a video that you could use for this, TeamUp has partnered with two video production companies, VisualWorks and Kuvastin, who will be happy to help you to get a great introduction video. Read more about our partners at our partner page

If you already have a good video about yourself in YouTube or in Vimeo, you could use it here. (NB: when adding a YouTube video, it's safer to use the URL that has youtube.com, as the shortlink youtu.be doesn't always work properly). Clicking on Add introduction video opens a new popup window where you can paste the URL for your video. Then, click Preview to see that the video works properly, after which you can save it to your profile by clicking Add.

If you have already added an introduction video to your profile and you'd like to change it, you can do it in the same popup window where you added it in the first place. You can open the popup by clicking on the blue pencil symbol that is shown on the top-right corner of the video you have added there. Changing the video is done in the same way as adding one. If you want to remove your introduction video, you can do it in the same popup by clicking Remove

Fill in additional information about yourself

When you have filled in or edited the parts on the front page of your profile (shown in the previous screenshots), continue to adding some more information about yourself to the About me section of your profile, which you can access by clicking on the symbol (indicated in the above screenshot by number 3). Please see the screenshot below to find out all the things you can tell about yourself in the About me -section.

Select sections to be shown

The About me page of your FanPage is divided into four sections: Info, My story, Achievements and Calendar. By default, all four sections are visible in your profile, but you can hide the three latter from view, should you want to. You can edit the sections' visibility by clicking the blue pencil symbol (indicated by 1 in the screenshot above). Only the Info page cannot be hidden.

The screenshot above has been made of the Info page. Each of the other sections contain only one text field where you can add the text you want - preferably related to the topic of the section in question. You can move between the sections by clicking on their icons, and as you know by now, you can start editing their contents by clicking on the pencil symbol.

Place of residence

We recommend that you tell your place of residence (number 2) in your profile. Why? Because businesses looking for FanPages they could sponsor or form a partnership with might want to support those FanPages that are located in the same area as they are or where they do most of their business. The search tool in TeamUp will later on be able to do searches based on this location information. When you tell your place of residence, it will be easier for businesses to find and discover you.

Description of yourself

In this section (indicated by number 3) you have the chance of introducing yourself in more detail and depth than in the short introduction text on the front page of your profile. Clicking on the blue pencil symbol opens a text editor where you can type in the text you want and also format it (you can use bold textitalics, headings, bullet points and links).

Hint: while you're thinking what kind of a text and how much should you write in this section, you should also consider the point of view of your readers: what kind of a text is pleasant and easy to read? If you write a longer text, it's not most reader-friendly if it's just one long paragraph. Instead, you should use some kind of formatting in it: divide it into shorter paragraphs by adding line breaks, perhaps even consider using headings. Remember that you can also add text to other sections (My story, Achievements, Calendar); everything doesn't have to be on this page.

Links

By clicking on the Add symbol you can add several links to this section (number 4), such as links to your own webpage, Facebook or Twitter profiles, your YouTube or Vimeo account... Our system automatically recognizes dozens of different sites and will use their logo (for instance the bird symbol of Twitter) here in its link. In this way users can easily see at one glance, which site the link leads to.

If you want to edit or delete a link that you've already added, you can do that by clicking on the blue pencil symbol, located on the top-right of the link list. In the popup window that opens you can either rename the link you have provided (you can't change its URL in this view, though) or delete the link. When you're done, remember to save the changes.

FanPage categories

This section (indicated by number 5 in the screenshot) is very useful for you as a FanPage: you can include in your profile a list of the FanPage categories you belong to. TeamUp uses different categories for categorizing the FanPages so that users can easily browse or search for FanPages in a particular  category, for instance musicians, if they want to discover new, unknown FanPages from a specific field.

You can select the categories that are most suitable to you by clicking on the blue pencil symbol. In the popup window you can first choose a main category that best describes you from three available options: Sport, Music or Other. After making that selection, you can see all available sub-categories; click on the ones that best describe you to select them. The upper part of the popup window shows the categories you have selected in orange.

When you have made your choices, save them by clicking Save category. If you want to remove a category, click on its button - shown in orange - in the sub-category list to deselect it. You can also remove all categories it necessary.

Saving the changes (and publishing the profile)

When you have done all the changes and edits you want, please remember to click the Done editing button to save the changes and to close the profile editing view. If you were editing a profile that you have already published, now everything's done!

However, if you were editing a profile that you haven't published yet, you probably cannot fail to notice the orange bar in the upper part of the profile. That bar servers to remind you that you haven't yet published your profile; in other words, other TeamUp users cannot see it and you can't use TeamUp in all possible ways. Publishing your profile is therefore essential. When you have done all the changes and edits to your profile, remember to finally publish it by clicking on the blue Publish button.
